Selling your home in the winter CAN have challenges. However, there are some advantages. Buyers who are shopping for their next home in the winter months are often very determined. The inventory in the winter months is often lower which means less competition for you! Your house will stand out to the right buyer.
I have put together a list of helpful ideas for selling your home this winter.
1. Winter Wonderland- We all know the weather in Hampton Roads can change by the minute. Prepare driveways and steps to allow guests to visit your home safely on snowy days. Keep an eye on the weather to make sure you are ahead of the changing conditions. What to do with all of that snow? You could always build a snowman to welcome visitors! Curb appeal is very important in the winter.
2. Let there be light! - When your house is being shown during the day, open curtains and blinds to let the light in. Turn lights on in rooms that are heavy with shade or without windows (don't forget closets). For evening appointments, turn on all lights. You don't want guests coming into a dark house. Remember the outdoor lights as well. Consider timers if you are going to be away from the home for an extended time.
3. Warm and cozy - Create a home that is welcoming. Light a fire in the fireplace if it is safe to do so. Turn up the heat. Guests will welcome a warm retreat from the cold. You want them to feel at home and linger! Play light classical music. Be careful with strong scents as some people have allergies. Boiling cinnamon in water is a nice touch and gives off a light scent. Bake cookies. Offer coffee and coccoa with disposable travel cups. Make sure to turn off computers and TVs, they can disrupt the warm atmosphere.
